Whether you install WebEvent event scheduling software on-premise or take advantage of our hosted on-demand solution, you can avoid problems associated with deploying an application to multiple client PCs running Windows and UNIX. WebEvent is 100% browser based and can be easily and securely accessed by anyone you authorize – even your remote staff. Just point your browser and go.

WebEvent calendar management software requires a UNIX or Windows Web server capable of running Perl CGI applications and a MySQL or SQL Server database. When the installation is completed, users can access the calendars through a Web browser.

WebEvent Event Scheduler On-Demand Requirements

WebEvent On-Demand has minimal system requirements, making it the easiest and fastest way to get up and running. All that's required to access WebEvent On-Demand is one of the following Web browsers: Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, Firefox 1.5 or higher or Safari 2.0 or higher. Other browsers may work but have not been tested.

Server Requirements

The server hosting the WebEvent server requires the English versions of the following hardware and software for a minimal installation.

Windows Environment
UNIX Environment
  • Certified Operating Systems: Windows 2000 with IIS 5.0Windows 2003 Server with IIS 6.0OS must have an active connection to the internet to download required Perl packages
  • RAM: 1 GB RAM minimum
  • Processor: 2 GHz or faster processor
  • Disk Space: 20 to 200 MB for 1,000-10,000 calendars and/or users with an average number of events
  • Network: Static IP address (recommended)Registered Domain Name (optional)
  • Scripting Language: Certified with ActivePerl 5.8.8b822 with support for using Perl DLL on web serverProgrammer's Package Manager (installed with Active Perl)
  • Scheduling Service: Microsoft Task Scheduler to handle email reminders, subscriptions, and change notifications
  • Application Data: Application Data component must be installed on a Windows machine (see below)
  • LDAP Server v3 (optional)
  • Certified Operating Systems: Redhat 3&4, SUSE 10.0. Other UNIX systems may work, but are not certified (such as Solaris, HP-UX, and FreeBSD)OS must have an active connection to the internet to download required Perl packages
  • RAM: 1 GB RAM minimum
  • Processor: 2 GHz or faster processor
  • Disk Space: 20 to 200 MB for 1,000-10,000 calendars and/or users with an average number of events

  • Application Data: Application Data component must be installed on a Windows machine (see below)
  • LDAP Server v3 (optional)

Application Data

In addition to the WebEvent server requirements, the application data for WebEvent requires the English versions of the following for a minimal installation.

 

Windows Environment UNIX Environment

If the web server is installed on Windows, the Application Data component must be installed on a Windows machine.

  • Database Server: SQL Server 2000 SP 4 or SQL Server 2005 SP 1-Perl DBI (v 1.5x)-Perl DBD::ODBC (v 1.1x)The database server can be installed on the same machine as the web server if you have fewer than 5,000 calendars / users. If you have more than 5,000 calendars / users, it is best to run the database server on a separate machine.
  • MySQL database server GA Release 4.1 or 5.0-Perl DBI (v 1.5x)-Perl DBD::mysql (v3.000x Production Release) and MySQL ODBC Connector 3.51 for Windows. The database server can be installed on the same machine as the web server if you have fewer than 5,000 calendars / users. If you have more than 5,000 calendars / users, it is best to run the database server on a separate machine.
  • Email Server: (optional) SMTP-compatible mail server for email integration

If the web server is installed on a UNIX machine, the Application Data component must be installed on UNIX.
